A man robbed a casino on the Las Vegas Strip on Tuesday morning, using threats to force a cashier to hand over $10, in casino chips.
Ronald Allison, 51, entered Cosmopolitan Las Vegas around 6:29 AM and made his way to the cage checkout. He dropped the heavy duffel bag on the counter and handed the cashier the note. The note read "Give me 10k purple or Boom," according to the local ABC
affiliate.
The cashier said he heard a loud noise as the bag was put on the counter. He believed that there was a firearm inside and that his life was in danger.
The casino employee handed over the money and pressed the panic button under the counter. Police arrived shortly thereafter and used video surveillance footage to trace Allison to nearby Waldorf Astoria, where he was arrested on suspicion of lethal armed robbery and firearms break-in.
During an initial search, police found money in Allison's bag. Authorities said he pleaded guilty to his crime while in custody.
Unfortunately, this is not a unique experience for Las Vegas casinos. In March 2019, a cage in the Bellagio poker room was robbed with a gun in hand for an undisclosed sum of money. The thief was killed in a shootout with the police while escaping from the scene. It ended up being the same person who had successfully robbed the poker room at the facility two years earlier.
