Then the coronavirus made its way to the United States. The pandemic caused Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak to temporarily shut down the state's gambling industry, and when it reopened, limited numbers of people were willing to travel to Las Vegas casinos out of fear of the virus.

In response to reduced demand, MGM and Caesars lowered the parking fee to help spark interest in returning to Sin City.

Now that the tourism industry is recovering, players are returning to the casinos and there is less incentive to keep parking spaces free. According to the report Yahoo! Las Vegas is a top road trip destination and the second most popular Memorial Day vacation destination.

Caesars brought in some parking fees in October, but it was still free for Nevada residents and hotel guests. There was no indication that this would change soon. Possible that MGM will take similar measures on its properties. Before the pandemic, fees ranged from 18 $ to 30 $ per day, depending on whether the car was parked with valet or self-service parking.

Of the 18 casinos on Las Vegas Boulevard, 17 are owned by Caesars and MGM . Nine of them belong to MGM .
