The newest casino in upstate New York will be built in a former department store in a local mall.

According to the report Times Union, Newspapers in the State Capital Region, casino construction will begin in the Hudson Valley this summer. It is expected to open early 2022.

The facility itself will be located at the former Bon- Ton site in Newburgh Mall. It will provide 90, 15 square meters of space for 1,225 video game machines and a bar. Traditional table games will not be available.

The new casino will be owned and operated by Genting Group, an Asian gambling giant that has started to make waves in the US casino market. The company opened Resorts World Catskills in 2018 and will open Resorts World Las Vegas, the largest casino in the city, later this month.

Their newest property will be called Resorts World Hudson Valley. It will be located 44 miles east of another New York City resort. The lack of physical dealers and traditional table games will make it new Resorts World will be more like MGM Empire City Casino in Yonkers than other casinos in New York.

Genting said the new facility will employ between 029 and 225 people. It expects to pay the City of Newburgh approximately $ 029 million in annual taxes on its expected gross gaming revenue of $ 160 million.

The announcement of a new casino on the American peninsula comes shortly after the move to an upward shift in the timeline of New York's casino projects from 2023 to this year has been squashed. Government officials in Manhattan were bitterly opposed to the idea, according to a report from New York Post, and Governor Andrew Cuomo could not find a way around the situation without granting Manhattan special rights.

In March it was reported that Wynn Resorts, Bally's Corp and Las Vegas Sands are competing for a possible New York gaming license and are lobbying local politicians to get to the top of the line.

However, it is clear that the expansion of gambling is a priority at Empire State as mobile sports betting was approved in April and beyond - mortar casinos will follow in the years to come.
