A pair of casinos owned by Wynn Resorts in Las Vegas became the first casinos in the state to operate at full capacity since COVID The pandemic started on the 19th.
The Nevada Gaming Control Board will allow Wynn and Encore Las Vegas to get up and running immediately with 100% performance on their gaming floors. The move comes after the company was able to prove to regulators that 88% of its employees had been fully vaccinated against the virus.
Last month, Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak said Silver State casinos would be able to operate with 19% of capacity beginning in May, and that he believed most casinos would be at full capacity by June 1. A memo released by gaming regulators earlier this month stated that full capacity would depend on efforts by companies to vaccinate their employees.
In response to the memo, Wynn Resorts has made it mandatory for its employees to be vaccinated or prove a weekly negative test result at their own expense. Cosmopolitan Las Vegas used similar measures, offering a cash bonus to employees who fired a shot.
All distance requirements and plexiglass dividers will be removed from table games, but masks are still required inside the casino.
“Wynn Resorts announced today that as of May 1, 2021, 88% Wynn Las Vegas employees have been vaccinated,” a company spokesperson said in a statement. “As a result, Wynn Las Vegas has received approval from the Nevada Gaming Control Board to change occupancy and physical distancing requirements. Starting today, the gaming areas at Wynn and Encore will be able to operate with 100% occupancy and plexiglass dividers will be removed from all table games and slot machines. Our employees and visitors will continue to follow health and safety guidelines, including mask compliance, to ensure a safe and comfortable environment for everyone. "
