Jonathan Tamayo wins the Wynn Summer Classic 1100 $ No-Limit Hold'em for 237,935 $

This year's World Series of Poker has been postponed to fall, but tournaments in Las Vegas are still plentiful all summer long, with other properties running a series of tournaments with huge prize pools.

Long-time professional poker player Jonathan Tamayo won one of the first big tournaments of the season, scoring a $ 237,935 at the Wynn Summer Classic. In the early hours of Tuesday morning, the Houston resident beat a staggering 1,720 entries in $1, a 67 no-limit hold'em tournament for a six-figure total and a trophy.

Tamayo beat the final table in which he participated World Poker Tour champion Frank Stepuchin and successful East Coast grinder Michael Azzaro, who finished eighth and sixth respectively. Tamayo defeated Jorge Arrioc heads-up to take the title.

In the tournament, the guaranteed prize pool of $ 1 million was easily crushed. With 1,556 entries on three starting flights, the tournament generated $1.67 million pool awards. Other notable ones who won the event but missed the final table include Thomas Zanot (- $ 9,270), Blake Whittington ($ 40th- $ 7,223), WPT master i WSOP bracelet winner Jared Jaffee ($ 36 $ 6, 437), Eric Baldwin ($ 64- $ 5, 211), and WPT master Jasthi Kumar (65th-$ 5, 223).

The three flights took place on Friday May 28, Saturday, May 28, and Sunday, May 30. Survivors from those three days returned on Monday May 30 to bet on the winner. It was early Tuesday morning by the time Tamayo got all the chips in the game.

Following the victory, Tamayo soared his career earnings to just $ 1.9 million. This is one of the biggest wins in his career, followed by a first place finish in 2021 WSOP major event that was good for $352,556. This is his fifth tournament win in his career and the rest have resulted in four careers WSOP Circuit is calling.

This is the second cash in 2021 for 35-year-olds, after minimum cash in $1,288 no-limit hold'em at the 2021 Lonestar Spring Series at Champions Social in Houston. The win at the Wynn catapults him to the 45th place in the race Card Player Player of the Year, sponsored by Global Poker, with 1.67 points.
