The last few months have seen an abundance of high-stakes heads-up matches for poker fans, and the trend looks set to continue throughout the summer.

Doug Polk beat Daniel Negreanu by seven figures when their 25,000 - hand match ended in early February and Negreanu immediately went into battle 15 - time World Series of Poker Phil Hellmuth, bracelet winner in a series of high-stakes one-on-one matches on PokerGO. While poker legend Phil Galfond defeated Chance Kornuth in his final "Galfond Challenge" match in late January.

Negreanu's coach and founder of Hybrid Poker, MJ Gonzales, has just started paring the stakes with Dan Smith. Smith is currently fifth on the all-time poker list with $ 37.06 million earned in career tournaments.

Both heads up $ 500 - $1,000 no limit hold' in Ivey's room at Aria Resort & Casino. In two sessions, Gonzales rose $ 42,000.

Smith won $ 32,000 in their first meeting on Sunday before Gonzales got the upper hand on Monday by booking $ 72,000 to win. According to Gonzales' social media, they will play again in a few days.

With stakes equivalent to Full Tilt Poker's infamous "Rail Heaven" games and a skill edge probably a bit thin, two pros could easily see swings worth several small houses. Gonzales said he was stuck around $ 280,000 in the first session before finally ending the day around $ 32,000.

On Monday, he tweeted a picture of his starting stack, which is around $1 million.

A few months ago, while his student was wrestling on a virtual felt with a Polish guy, Gonzales jumped on Twitter and was looking for high-stakes heads-up matches of his own. The only caveat was that it had to be live poker.

Gonzales booked a $1 million freezeout for $1,000 - $2,000 non-Limit Hold'em against Polish nose stakes online pro Wiktor Malinowski. He also got action from Isaac Haxton, but the details of this match still need to be worked out.

There's no way to follow the action other than their social media updates, but both players appear to be lobbying for PokerGO to broadcast the match.
